by

Join us for a Black World Cinema Family FilmTalk about Afrofuturism and the Chadwick Boseman Black Panther film.
We’ve waited for the promotional dust to clear and the choosing of our 2018 Afrofuturist Film Competition choice for this year’s  Women’s History Month.  We present this years winning short film, SIGHT (2018, 15 min), by new director Janeen Talbott, as a short before Black Panther.

Black Panther (2018) has become a billion dollar blockbuster and a cultural phenomena. We want to talk about the meaning of this success and whats it means to the cultural and economy. Come out to listen, be hear and see a compelling new work by a new independent director’s we think offers us more meat to the discussion of Afrofuturism and the future of black cinema.

Joining us for the panel discussion after the films will be Afrofuturist Writer/Filmmaker Ytasha Womack, WVON Talk Show Host Salim Muwakkil and Pop Culture Content Creator Paco Taylor.

SIGHT is a compelling Afrofuturist themed film in which Naji, a nonbeliever from a parallel earth, must make the ultimate sacrifice to save her tribe when supernatural forces bring a dark truth to light.

Director Janeen Talbott is an ambivert, artist, naturalista and a returned Peace Corps volunteer. In Ethiopia, the Florida A&M alumna served for two years, mentoring, teaching and evolving. While abroad she was able to peer at the world and deeper into herself from a different vantage-point. It is from that perspective that she intends to develop and tell stories.
