With all the hoopla lately, I figured I would pander the the present zeitgeist and show something kinda serious and extremely rare on the big screen.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>July 5th is my birthday but we will celebrate at our July screening of INTRUDER IN THE DUST at Black World Cinema&#8217;s July 3rd screening!!<\/p>\n<p>Juano Hernandez in in the lead and poppa don&#8217;t take no mess. Juano Hernandez, was Puerto Rican born in 1896, made his movie debut in 1932 playing a Cuban in \u201cThe Girl from Chicago,\u201d a Oscar Micheaux\u2019s film for African American audiences. In 1949 he received critical acclaim \u2013 and a Golden Globe nomination as best newcomer \u2013 for his role as Lucas Beauchamp in \u201cIntruder in the Dust.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So come on out and have a ball with a great film, eat some popcorn, talk some smack in &#8220;the year that I stop counting!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><i style=\"color: #252525;\"><b>Intruder in the Dust<\/b><\/i><span style=\"color: #252525;\">\u00a0is a 1949\u00a0<\/span>crime drama film<span style=\"color: #252525;\">\u00a0produced and directed by\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"Clarence Brown\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Clarence_Brown\">Clarence Brown<\/a><span style=\"color: #252525;\">\u00a0and starring Juano Hernandez,\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"David Brian\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/David_Brian\">David Brian<\/a><span style=\"color: #252525;\">\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"Claude Jarman, Jr.\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Claude_Jarman,_Jr.\">Claude Jarman, Jr.<\/a><span style=\"color: #252525;\">\u00a0The film is based on the novel\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"color: #252525;\"><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"Intruder in the Dust\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Intruder_in_the_Dust\">Intruder in the Dust<\/a><\/i><span style=\"color: #252525;\">\u00a0by\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"William Faulkner\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Faulkner\">William Faulkner<\/a><span style=\"color: #252525;\">.<\/span> The film closely follows the plot line of the Faulkner\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"Novel\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Novel\">novel<\/a>. It tells the story of Lucas Beauchamp, a poor black\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"Mississippi\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mississippi\">Mississippi<\/a>\u00a0farmer unjustly accused of the murder of a white man. The film earned Juano Hern\u00e1ndez a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"Golden Globe Award\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Golden_Globe_Award\">Golden Globe nomination<\/a>\u00a0for &#8220;New Star of the Year&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-EBC_3-0\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Intruder_in_the_Dust_(1949_film)#cite_note-EBC-3\">[3]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The film was listed as one of the ten best of the year by the New York Times. William Faulkner said of the film: &#8220;I&#8217;m not much of a moviegoer, but I did see that one. I thought it was a fine job. That Juano Hern\u00e1ndez is a fine actor&#8211;and man, too.&#8221;<sup id=\"cite_ref-Times-1962_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Intruder_in_the_Dust_(1949_film)#cite_note-Times-1962-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup> \u00a0 More than 50 years later, in 2001, film historian\u00a0<a style=\"color: #0b0080;\" title=\"Donald Bogle\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Donald_Bogle\">Donald Bogle<\/a>\u00a0wrote that\u00a0<i>Intruder in the Dust<\/i>\u00a0broke new ground in the cinematic portrayal of blacks, and Hern\u00e1ndez&#8217;s &#8220;performance and extraordinary presence still rank above that of almost any other black actor to appear in an American movie.&#8221;\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-Bogle2001_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #0b0080;\"
